Camelot of Illinois

Dekalb Campus

Camelot's Therapeutic Day School located in DeKalb provides therapy and academic instruction for children and adolescents, ages 3 to 21, requiring special education services for autism, learning disabilities, social/emotional disorders, developmental disabilities, orthopedic impairment, multiple disability, traumatic brain injury and other health impairments.

The school contains eleven classrooms, each with a certified teacher and classroom counselor with a bachelor’s degree in psychology or a related field. All classrooms are self-contained in the Autism Center and elementary section and departmentalized in the junior high and high school sections. No more than ten students are assigned to a classroom at a time.

Students participate in physical education classes at a variety of locations throughout the community including the public pool, Haish Gym, and YMCA. Other classes include bowling at Northern Illinois University’s Huskie Den and power walking in the neighborhood.

AUTISM CENTER

In addition to four large classrooms (each with its own bathroom), the Autism Center has a grooming room with three shampoo sinks, a shower, washer and dryer, two make-up vanities, a sensory room, a quiet room, a large OT room, a speech room, two social work rooms for play therapy and access to a kitchen.

FACILITIES

The classrooms are spacious and separated into elementary and junior high/high school sections. Offices are centered along the main hallway allowing for good communication between the education staff and the therapists. Facilities include a kitchen, an all-purpose room for lunch and larger group activities and a separate Autism Center.
