Capital Academy
Capital Academy is a staff secure 48 bed residential, educational treatment facility for adolescent males aged 15.5 to 18. The program is fully licensed by the Division of Child Behavioral Health Services under the auspices of the New Jersey Department of Children and Families.
STAFFING
Capital Academy offers a multi-disciplinary team approach. Specialists in residential, clinical, and educational services meet regularly to provide a comprehensive treatment program providing individual treatment plans for each resident.
Twenty four hour a day residential services are provided by our residential staff.
The Clinical Director, a Board Certified Psychologist, oversees clinical, behavioral health services and social services including a psychiatrist, physician, and master degree level clinicians. Other adjunctive treatment disciplines are utilized on an as needed basis.
SERVICESIndividual / Group Therapy is conducted twice a week to assist the resident in moving toward the goals of his treatment plan.
Psychiatric services are available weekly for case consultation and medication monitoring.
Specialized treatment includes anger management, drug and alcohol counseling, firesetting, challenging anti-social belief systems, and helping to formulate age appropriate sexual relations.
Family Therapy is provided by the primary clinician to assess family functioning and determine how to utilize the family as a resource for the resident’s development.
Educational Services are currently contracted through the Office of Education, DHS. Classroom instruction is provided by certified teachers for a minimum of 4.5 hours a day. Each student has an IEP that meets all Department of Education standards.
Medical services are provided on site. Each resident will have an initial physical and follow up as needed. A nurse is on site daily. A medical doctor is on call daily. A dentist is available for both routine and emergency dental care. Additional medical services are provided when needed.

Admission Criteria
• Applicants are male only
• Applicants age range is 15.5 to 18
• Applicants must have a 65+ I.Q. range
Capital Academy receives referrals from New Jersey Division of Child Behavioral Health Services coordinated through Value Options.
Candidates who meet the above criteria, including those individuals who would otherwise be placed out of state, are referred to Capital Academy, through the Placement Services Unit at the Division of Child Behavioral Health Services.
During a one month orientation, the resident will become familiar with house rules and meal schedules, participate in individual and group therapy, perform chores, and have the opportunity for education and recreation. During the orientation period, the resident participates in the development of his treatment plan. Clinical education and residential assessments will be completed and made part of the treatment plan. The treatment team will meet weekly.
