Pulaski Campus

Camelot of Virginia's Pulaski Campus is located on fourteen acres in a quiet, rural neighborhood in the southwest corner of Virginia. Surrounded by trees and foliage, the campus provides an ideal setting for treatment and education.

The Camelot Therapeutic Day School at Pulaski provides therapy and academic instruction for children and adolescents, ages 3 to 21, who have been unable to succeed in the public school system due to the severity of their disabilities.

ACADEMIC PROGRAM

Camelot's curriculum is based on the requirements set by the Virginia Standards of Learning and provides courses in:

  • English
  • Mathematics
  • Science
  • Social Studies
  • History

Multi-sensory, colorful, highly interactive materials, and manipulative are utilized whenever possible. Traditional textbook teaching is augmented with hands-on experiences, community outings and activities.

Students at the high school level are enrolled in the classes required for graduation by the student's home school.

 

STAFF

A low student-to-teacher/counselor ratio is essential to a child's progress. Our experienced and highly skilled staff works closely with each child to develop their full potential for academic achievement and mastery of critical life skills.

  • Minimum of three classroom staff for ten students
  • 1:1 staff to student ratio when necessary
  • Individual therapy is provided by a social worker or licensed counselor

SOCIAL/EMOTIONAL DISORDERS PROGRAM

Camelot's therapeutic program uses recreational and art activities to facilitate the development of responsibility, effective decision-making, assertiveness, sportsmanship, positive self-expression and social and emotional growth. Recreational therapy includes, but is not limited to:

  • Play Therapy
  • Active Games and Sports
  • Arts and Crafts
  • Exercise
  • Leisure Counseling
  • Horseback Riding Therapy
  • Interaction with Animals
  • Field Trips
  • Music and Relaxation Techniques

Occupational therapy, speech therapy and other related services are provided as indicated on each student's IEP or IIP.
